What it is.
Ultra high bulk is the top of the folding boxboard range. The mechanical middle ply is run thicker still, so caliper per gram goes up again. Two reasons buyers pay for it: a carton that has to feel premium in the hand at a weight that keeps freight and material cost down, and lines where the box is specified on thickness rather than on grammage.
The trade-off is real and worth stating: bulk comes from mechanical fibre, and mechanical fibre is less strong per gram than chemical fibre. Above a certain point you gain thickness and start to lose tensile and folding performance. Which side of that line your carton sits on depends on the crease pattern and the converting line — so send the carton drawing with the enquiry, not just a grammage.
