Carbonless Paper
Three different papers that only work as a set — CB, CF and CFB, specified against each other rather than individually.
What it is.
A carbonless set is a chemical system split across sheets. CB carries microcapsules on its back. CF carries the receiving coat on its front. CFB does both, so it can sit in the middle of a multi-part set. Pressure from a pen breaks the capsules and the dye develops against the receiving coat below.
Because it is one system, the plies have to be matched. Colour development is specified across the set: ΔE2 ≥ 35 on CB, ΔE5 ≥ 40 and ΔE6 ≥ 37 on CFB, and ΔE6 ≥ 37 on CF. Triple-part colour effect is rated at 80 % — that is the number that tells you the third copy is still legible, which is the whole point of a three-part set.
