Newsprint
Bought on runnability, not on appearance — because a web break costs far more than the paper on the reel.
What it is.
Newsprint is the clearest case in paper of the cheapest sheet not being the cheapest purchase. A press running 40,000 copies an hour that stops for a web break loses more in twenty minutes of downtime and waste than the price difference across a whole shipment.
So the specification is about consistency rather than quality in the usual sense: tensile strength that does not have weak spots, moisture held even across and along the reel, and a reel profile without hard or soft edges that will cause the web to wander.
Grammage, reel width and diameter are set against your press. Technical data and a batch test report are issued with each shipment.
Typical applications
- Newspapers
