Forming paper specified by air permeability — the property that decides how the component behaves in use, not how it looks.
What it is.
Some tobacco components are specified on how much air passes through them. Permeability is not a side effect here; it is the working property, and it is controlled at the paper machine rather than added afterwards.
Two families are produced. A naturally breathable grade achieves permeability through the sheet structure itself. A high-permeability grade takes that further and is specified alongside flatness — because a highly permeable sheet that is not flat will not run true through a forming machine.
